The Incomparable Prophet
Text: Deuteronomy 18:15-22
Key verse: “The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken” (Deuteronomy 18:15).
Moses was a great prophet of God who received divine commendation for his earthly ministry. “And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.” He did great exploits for the Lord in the land of Egypt and also in the wilderness. It could be said of him that he fought a good fight and kept the faith. As he was about to leave, he charged Joshua in particular and Israel in general to remember all the commandments which the Lord had given them to observe and do them.
Also, he spoke prophetically about the coming of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. From our text, we discover the promise of the great Prophet with a command to receive Him and hearken to Him. Although some people think it is the promise of a succession of prophets that should be for many ages in Israel. Yet, we are sure that it is primarily intended as a promise of Christ, and it is the clearest promise of Him that is in all the laws of Moses.
Jesus Christ, the son of God is the greatest Man that ever lived. He is greater than the greatest, wiser than the wisest because He is the wisdom of God; and He is higher than the highest because He is the everlasting Father having no beginning of days nor end of time.
Speaking to the religious people of His days, He affirmed “Before Abraham was, I am.” Jesus Christ was concealed in the Old Testament, but revealed in the New Testament. He came to the world as the Lamb of God sacrificed in order to take away the sins of the whole world. He is the ladder from earth to heaven. He is the only Mediator between sinful men and holy God. Salvation from sin and victory over Satan is only possible through faith in His blood.
Whatever you are going through this day, you can experience total transformation by faith in His atoning blood. As a believer, you can enjoy daily victory as you trust the Lord and daily obey His Word.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Life without Christ is hopeless.
