George Horne said, “Music and conversation are two things by which the mind of man receive much good or a great deal of harm. They who make ‘Jehovah’ and His ‘wondrous works’ the subject of both, enjoy a heaven upon earth. And they who do in reality love the Saviour, will always find themselves inclined to ‘sing to him’ and to ‘talk of him’.”
The passage today was part of the songs of praises to God written by David and sung by the choir on the carrying up of the Ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David. In it, we are exhorted to give thanks to God, call upon His name, sing unto Him, publish His wondrous works, glory in His name, seek the Lord and remember His marvelous works. These duties may seem many but they are all to exalt the name of the Lord.
We live an unfulfilled life when we do not count our blessings and praise God, the source of all our goodness. As a church, as families and as individuals, we should constantly praise God for the blessings we receive in our weekly and special meetings like retreats and the Africa-wide crusades. Salvation of souls, sanctification of the saved, outpouring of the Spirit of God in baptismal measure, restoration of backsliders, healing of the sick, deliverance for the oppressed and the power to live a holy life in this decadent world should propel us to sing loud praises to God.
Like David we need at all times to live a life of praises to God for all the mercies bestowed upon us. It is this appreciative heart that will enable us to pray for and receive further mercies from God. When we do not testify to God’s wondrous works in our lives, we rob others of the chance to build up their faith.

Thought for the day:Praise God for former mercies, pray for further mercies and publish His famous mercies.
