Separation From Defilement
Text: LEVITICUS 15:19-33
KEY VERSE: “And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever touched her shall be unclean” (Leviticus 15:19).
It was a rainy day, when a toddler strayed away from his mother and fell into the mud, which stained his body. Innocently, everything he touched was stained until his mother washed him thoroughly. Separation from defilement and all forms of pollutions was central both for leaders and laity in Bible days. In fact, defiled persons who went into the sanctuary of the Lord presumptuously were struck dead instantly for their error. This is in line with God’s commandment that says, “ye shall be holy unto me, for I the Lord I am holy”.
Our text today reveals the levitical laws on uncleanness and separation from defilement. Running issue in women was regarded as a sign of defilement. Anybody who touched her bed would need to take his/her bath and wash his clothe and remain unclean till evening. This made the woman unclean, and everything she touched unclean also.
God’s desire for all His creatures in every generation is to be holy and free from pollution and sin. This is because sin is contagious and damnable. It is clear that many people are defiled and destroyed in our generation not because of their own sin alone but because they are lured into sin by others. It is therefore true as the scriptures say that we must not follow the multitude to do evil.
In the New Testament dispensation, Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb of God made full atonement for sin. By this, sinners and backsliders can come unto Him for cleansing and purification. By this law, we are also taught to preserve in holiness and purity of life and keep ourselves from all sinful and moral pollution. No one can claim any excuse before God for not being made holy and pure because He has made enormous provision for our ultimate deliverance and dominion in holiness.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Sin is contagious, flee!
