Retribution for God’s Enemies
TEXT: LEVITICUS 14:21-32
KEY VERSE: “And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD: And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the trespass offering” (Leviticus 14:27,28).
There was a family that was suddenly attacked by a gang of menacing armed robbers at the dead of the night. The household resorted to what it knew to do in moments of grave peril – pray. The robbers came in, ransacked the house, ate all they found in the fridge and collected virtually all they had. They were about to leave when Jehovah struck! The gang-leader became seized by a deadly stomach pain, which ironically prompted the burdened intercession of the home’s husband and wife. Miraculously, the leader instantaneously recovered leading to his being led to the Lord with two of his felons. When the testimony was given at the fellowship, the converted robbers were there. What a mighty God we serve!
Our text pin-points the coup-de-grace which God applied against obstinate Pharaoh and his belligerent army. God had, through ten disastrous plagues, admonished Pharaoh to let His people go. Pharaoh did not let them go until the night of the Passover, when the first born of all Egyptians were slain. But trust Pharaoh, a type of Satan, to attempt to overturn that which Jehovah had decreed. He pursued God’s people and entered into the parted pathway of the Red Sea amidst giant waves, without the least consideration for how the parting came into being. This was his undoing, for the Red Sea turned out to be the graveyard of his once imperial army. Believers must not be afraid of the antics of the enemy. Their fate is already sealed and determined by the Almighty God. Conduct a survey about what God says about the wicked in the book of Proverbs alone and you will discover the doom and disaster awaiting the adversaries of God’s people.
Yet, deliverance by God from the hands of the wicked and vile enemies is not automatic. God comes to the rescue of those who submit to the majesty of His will; those who fear Him and walk with Him. If it seems therefore that enemies are having the leeway over you, check out for possible spiritual leakages in your life and amend them straightaway.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Temporal and eternal punishments await all enemies of God’s elect.
