A PRIG OR A PRIEST?
“And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.” (1 Samuel 2:14).
A prig is a person regarded as arrogant and annoying. That was exactly what the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas were. They were actually trained to be priests. They knew the law of God. They had lived in the temple all their lives. They knew what was right and what was wrong. Yet, when it came to obeying the rules and doing the right things the right way, they would rather use their privileged positions to get their will done. They rejected their high calling. They became prigs instead of priests.
In the instance recorded above, Hophni and Phinehas were forcing their way to take offerings and sacrifices brought to the temple. They wanted to eat out of them but would not wait for the appropriate time. They were not ready to be patient or obey rules. They wanted food and they wanted it right now. Does that sound familiar to you? Could that be exactly what you do to your juniors in school and your younger ones at home? Are you arrogant? Do you listen to advice and instructions from others? God will help you to maintain your calling as a priest and not a prig. You must be a priest for God. You will not be a prig in Jesus name.
Challenge: You are a special project in the factory of God. You will turn out fine. Prayer: Help me O Lord to live to serve You well in all that I do today.
