HERO WORSHIP

“But Peter took him up, saying, stand up; I myself also am a man.” (Acts 10:25).

Many young people now find success in football so appealing. Therefore whatever the football stars in the different European leagues do is often closely monitored and imitated. Football is not the only field where heroes are worshipped. Music is another. Music superstars are celebrated whether at home or abroad. Then there are the film stars. People love to take their autographs or even take photographs with them. The pity though is that many of the stars are really not worth celebrating morally and spiritually. Many are on drugs and majority of them who are married have broken homes. Many of the modern day super stars are obviously unknown in heaven.

Be careful in choosing your hero. Peter would not want Cornelius or members of his family to worship him. Neither should you worship a religious leader or football hero. They are all men. Yes, we must honour and respect our leaders. But we must never allow ourselves to be carried away by the uncontrolled passion that is ruling the world of sports today. Get challenged and motivated by their exploits but remember, they are still human.

Challenge:                  Jesus, not any man, should be your superstars.
Prayer:                        Help me Father to do all things for Your glory today.
