Topic – OUR POSITION AND POSSESSION THROUGH THE EXALTED CHRIST

Hebrews 3:1-6

For this Man, Christ Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us, was counted worthy of more glory than Moses. Those verses, (Hebrews 3:1-6), reveal Christ in His Exaltation, Power and Authority. This passage reveals our partnership – we are partakers; our position because we identify with Him; and our possession – what we have in the Exalted Christ. “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus” (Hebrew 3:1). It says we must consider Him. For a sinner to get saved, he must consider Christ, and for you as a believer to be sanctified and have the power of heaven, you need to consider Christ the more. You are sick in the body and want to be healed, oppressed, have pressure upon your life, want to be freed from the destructive power of the enemy making you to be in bondage; you must consider Christ the more.

In this passage, we see the following:

  1. The Priesthood of Christ – Hebrews 3:1

He is the One that brings you to God, forgives all your sins, and makes you to have membership in the household of faith.

2. The Perfection of Christ – Hebrews 3:2

This is the Sinless, Spotless, Perfect and Holy life of Christ; Christ without spot, fault, sin and blemish. He is faithful through and through unto God.

3. The Preeminence of Christ – Hebrews 3:3

He has more glory, honour and exaltation over all. On earth, in heaven, in religion, for our redemption, to meet and satisfy every need of man – the Preeminence of Christ. As you come to Him today, and rededicate your life unto Him today you make Him preeminent in your life. At Salvation, He becomes Present in your life, for without Salvation you have not touched Christ nor received any benefit of connection with Him. Then you move on to Sanctification and Christ becomes Prominent in your life. At Holy Ghost Baptism, He becomes Preeminent in your life.  Christ present, prominent and preeminent.

4. The Power of Christ – Hebrews 3:4

He is talking about His ability and authority to create; about the power of Christ. If He is able to build all things, He will build your life. Anything down in your life He will raise up with the power of resurrection. Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever, that power is still here today. He will work on your life that you will never be the same again in Jesus Name.

5. The Position of Christ – Hebrews 3:5

He talked about Moses, and now he is talking about Christ, Higher than Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, the prophets and angels. Think of any man in the present, past and future, Christ is higher than all men.

6. Our Perseverance in Christ – Hebrews 3:6

This is our response. After he has spoken about Christ, now he brings us in. As you come to Christ, you will abide and continue in Him, and everything Heaven has ordained to do with the power of creation, that work will be done in your life even from now in Jesus name. You will become a complete man.

3 points:

Point 1. OUR EXPERIENCE AND PRIVILEGE IN CHRIST

Hebrews 3:1

He is talking about Christ, the Centre of our lives; through Him we enter into the Kingdom, and through Him we are strengthened to be able to walk in the Narrow Way that leads to Glory and Heaven.

What do we have in Him?

  1. Salvation in Christ – Hebrews 2:9,10; 3:1

The soul that sinneth shall die, you should have died, carried the load of your punishment of sin, but Jesus says no, He loves you, and He suffered for you so that He can bring you to salvation. It is that salvation that makes you a child of God. After you are born again and you are doing the Will of God, He says you are His brethren.

2. Reconciliation unto God – Hebrews 2:17

“Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17). As our High Priest, He has reconciled us back to God. There is a great gulf and chasm between us and the Almighty God. We were sinful, HE is Sinless; we were faulty, HE is Faithful; we were in degradation and disgrace, but HE is in Glory and Honour; and to bridge that gap, and bring us to God, He made Reconciliation. The enmity between you and the Almighty God is cancelled. The moment you give your life to Christ, to receive Him as Lord and Saviour, He cancels that enmity and reconciles you back to God.

3. Redemption – Hebrews 9:12

Eternal redemption, a wonderful redemption; that is what He has done for us. He brings us out of the slave market of sin and breaks all the chains and fetters that bound us. Because His blood is greater than the blood of all the animals in the world, and now that Christ has shed His blood for us, then judgement, indignation and the wrath of God will pass over you, for by His blood, He has obtained Eternal Redemption for us (Hebrews 9:10).

4. Sanctification – Hebrews 2:11

He is not ashamed to call us brethren because He sanctified us with His blood. There is a nature of sin in everyone that is born as a descendant of Adam, called depravity, the original sin, the propensity to sin, the one that draws us as a magnet all the time to do what is wrong, to say what is wrong, and to act in a wrong way. That depravity, magnet, and propensity, He takes away. He is the Only One that can do that (Hebrews 2:11)

5. Christ’s Nature – Hebrews 3:14; 2 Peter 1:3,4

He grants us His Nature. A new nature is coming to you today. We are made partakers of His Nature, love, goodness, grace, and fullness (Hebrews 3:14). There are different kinds of nature, the lions, elephants, insects, and natural men all have their own nature, and Christ has His own nature. And when you come to Christ, He takes the animal nature away from you, and gives you His own Nature. You will never be the same again when you have the nature of Christ.  He will directs and leads you; and makes you to do things according to His Will. He will make you to have the love of God, and have the character of Christ. All things spiritual, natural, physical, from heaven, and supernatural, all things you will have today. You are called to glory. Glory will come into your life today; disgrace, ignominy, shame will get out of your life. All those things not enjoyable in your life are going away today in Jesus Name (2 Peter 1:3). You must ask yourself the question, as you look at your life, look at your actions, behaviour, thoughts, relationship with other people, plans, inner motivation, whatever drives you to do what you do in the office, home, church, everywhere – does this reflects the divine nature? Lying, dirty language, habitual sinning, sinning without conscience, in public or private, brining the Name of Christ to shame by your attitude and behaviours, does that reflects the divine nature? Things are changing today. You have escaped. What a shame that anybody that names the Name of Christ like you should be caught in the web of corruption. Escape today. Corruption leads to condemnation. If you have corruption here, it will lead to condemnation on the other side of eternity. But we have escaped the corruption of this world. That is the privilege we have in Christ. We shall be in that better land eventually. When the roll is called up yonder, I will be there.

6. Sonship

7. Glory of God in our lives

8. Better Land – Hebrews 11:14-16

“But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city” (Hebrews 11:16). He has prepared for you a City. You will be there.

We have all these through Jesus Christ, the Exalted and Preeminent One.

Point 2. THE EXALTATION AND THE PRE-EMINENCE OF CHRIST

Hebrews 3:2-5; Revelations 3:14; Colossians 1:18; Matthew 16:18; Philippians 2:9-11; Isaiah 9:6,7; Daniel 7:13,14; Matthew 28:18

For this Man, Christ, Emmanuel, Jesus, our Saviour, our Redeemer, and the Supplier of all things in our lives was counted worthy of more glory than Moses (Hebrews 3:2). Christ is the Faithful One, and I pray that His faithfulness will be revealed in your life even today in Jesus Name.  Has He given you a promise, He is the Faithful One. Has He manifested His power in any other life, He is the Faithful One. Has He said that He will set you free, He is the Faithful One. He is the Originator of all the Creation of God, and He has more glory and honour, and when you come to Christ, that glory and honour will flow into your life (Revelations 3:14). He will build up your life. In all things He has the Preeminence (Colossians 1:18). He is the One building the Church, your life and family. Everything that has crumbled in your life today, He will build you up.  “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). You are part of Christ’s Church, and the devil will not prevail over the church, your life, your family and everything that concerns you. Every yoke of the devil is broken in your life today in Jesus Name. Christ is Exalted, and He will be exalted in your life. “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9). That same God that exalted Jesus will exalt your life as you come to Christ, abide and continue in Him in Jesus Name. The name of Jesus is greater than the name of your problem, sickness and any demon that tries to torment you and that Name that is greater than every name will destroy every work of the devil in your life today. The glory of God will be revealed in your life in Jesus Name (Philippians 2:11)

Isaiah wants you to esteem and exalt that Name of Jesus, for that Name is greater and higher than any other name (Isaiah 9:6,7). There is a performance this morning here and in your life. The One that has all power, the Irresistible One, the Unstoppable One, the Unconquerable One, the One that is Exalted and whose Name is above every name, and the One that will reign forever and ever upon this earth in the Millennial Reign, and the One that will sit upon His Throne in Glory forever and ever, comes to make your heart His throne this morning, and something great will happen to you.  “And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed” (Daniel 7:14).“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18). Because all power is given unto Him He is standing near the oppressed, the sick, and today is the day of your freedom in Jesus Name. He will do it in your life. You will not go back home the way you came in Jesus Name.

Point 3. OUR EXPECTATION AND PERSEVERANCE IN CHRIST

Hebrews 3:6,14; Matthew 24:11-13

Your expectation will not be cut short; realization and glory will come in your life. Every shame and sorrow will be taken out of your life in Jesus name. You expect because of that you have come. You want to keep on enjoying, because of that you continue. You want to be translated from here to glory because of that you will continue till the very end. You will never look back. The goodness, grace and glory of God will continue in your life in Jesus name. You will go stronger and stronger, higher and higher, and the devil, enemies, persecutors will not drive you back. You will be stronger than all your enemies, greater than all your persecutors and more faithful than all the agents of the devil in Jesus Name. Christ will abide in your heart, and you will abide also in Christ. Every problem and yoke, the Lord will destroy out of your life in Jesus Name. We come, we continue. You are a Project of the Almighty God, He is working on you, and He will not stop until He has finished. You will not be an unfinished Project.  He will perfect your life, family, and the work of your hands. Every good thing you have laid your hands on will be completed to perfection in Jesus Name. Victory, success, progress, glory for you and completion of the project upon your life, in Jesus Name. You will finish well.  “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end” (Hebrews 3:6). There are people that are sleeping on their journey, sleeping as they come to Christ and their Bible, faith, expectation, healing, and goodness of the Lord are dropping from their hands; but you will hold fast, nothing will take your salvation and blessing. You will continue. You will not stop your journey halfway, and the joy of the Lord, and goodness of God will follow you all the days of your life. You will endure till the end. You will not go back. False prophets, will not catch up with you. You will run much ahead of them (Matthew 24:11). Evil, backsliding, and compromise will not catch up with you. Your love will not wax cold (Matthew 24:12). “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13). Thank God you are saved, and the power, blessings, glory of God and the all the good things that the Lord has provided at Calvary will come to your life and continue with you in Jesus Name.

  1. Come unto Him and have rest – Matthew 11:28
  2. Continue in His Word – John 8:31
  3. Conquer – we are more than Conquerors – Romans 8:37

One of these days, the trumpets shall sound, and the dead in Christ shall rise; and we who are alive will be caught up together with them. When the saints go marching in, I will be there, and you will be there. Come, Continue and Conquer.

Ponder on this! At Salvation, He becomes Present in your life, at Sanctification, Christ becomes Prominent in your life, and at the Holy Ghost Baptism, He becomes Preeminent in your life. Pastor (Dr) W.F Kumuyi.

Reflections – You expect because of that you come. You want to keep on enjoying, because of that you continue. You want to be translated from here to glory because of that you will continue till the very end. Pastor (Dr) W.F Kumuyi.
