Study 54 – CHRIST’S FULLER REVELATION THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT
John 16:12-22; Matthew 13:11,16-17,51-52; Luke 10:21-24
Christ’s declaration must have taken the disciples by surprise. Understand that Jesus had been with the disciples for three and half years, and He had been teaching and exposing them to the things of the kingdom, and they thought they had heard and learnt all things Christ had to offer them. When they thought they were at the end of their syllabus, Christ said that He still had many things to tell them. “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:12-13). As you look at the Gospels, the disciples already knew more than the Pharisees, they had heard about the mysteries of the Kingdom, how to enter and remain, manifest the power and authority of the Kingdom (Matthew 13:11), and the final coming Kingdom and yet Jesus said that was not all. These disciples had known and learnt more than the kings and prophets of the Old Testament, they had heard the voice of the Father from heaven, and had learnt some interpretations of the Old Testament from Christ; they knew more than the wise people of the world (Luke 10:21), and yet, they still needed the Holy Ghost to teach them many more things. Jesus had been revealing the nature, power, love, kingdom and glory of the Father unto them, and yet with all these revelations, and the things they had learnt and known, He said, ‘I have yet many things to say unto you’. “And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see” (Luke 10:23). He told them that they needed to appreciate the position, revelation and knowledge that they had had, which the Holy Ghost was coming to make fuller.
Everything you need to learn and revelation from Heaven, the Holy Ghost will bring. As He reveals the Truth unto you, He shall glorify Christ.

POINT 1: THE FOUNDATIONAL TEACHING OF THE SAVIOUR
John 16:12; Luke 6:47-49; 13:3,5,23-27; John 3:3,5; Matthew 5:3-8; 17:1-5; John 8:11,24,30,31; Luke 22:28; John 5:24,28-29; Matthew 24:21
“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now” (John 16:12). Before we can unravel that verse, we need to go back to what they knew already. Jesus Christ the Teacher, Master, Instructor, Guide and the personification of the Truth, had taught them about repentance, and believing on Him, truth, His doctrine and He was going to build on that foundation. What were the foundational teachings of the Saviour that they were exposed to before then? That all who came to Him, heard Him, repented and believed on Him would be as a house built upon the Rock. (Luke 6:47-49) He revealed to them the necessity and indispensability of repentance, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3,5). {It is good to come to all these meeting, but have you repented? There must be repentance and the giving of your life to Jesus Christ.} After teaching them about repentance, salvation and faith, the deposit of knowledge, revelation truth that they had (Matthew 5:3-8), some of them had even seen His glorification at the Mount of Transfiguration, yet He said this was not the end, zenith or epitome of knowledge, for there were still more things to know that the Holy Ghost would teach them when He came. So don’t think you know it all, Jesus still has many things to teach us.
“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more” (John 8:11). Even with forgiveness and victory over sin, and a victorious Christian life, Christ is saying there are still many things we need to learn through the Holy Ghost. Understand that believing on Him is not the end of instruction, revelation and knowledge, there are still many things to learn when the Holy Ghost comes (John 8:30-32). These that had believed and continued with Him, were steadfast, obedient people not falling and rising, but strong and stable, faithful people; they had known about the Resurrection, the life to come (John 5:24,28-29), and yet the Lord said they still had more to learn. They had known about humility, holiness without hypocrisy, marriage, evangelism, fruitfulness, family life, restitution, healing, deliverance, victory over the power of darkness, restoration from backsliding, perseverance, enduring to the end, resurrection, the Great Tribulation and destitution that was to come at that time from the Book of Daniel, the Antichrist, the Second Coming, Hell, Heaven, rewards of the saints forever, punishment of sinners, and quite a lot of things and yet with all that knowledge Christ told them that there were still many more things to learn. So as you look at your personal life and knowledge, you are asking yourself, what next? There must be willingness to learn more from the Lord. I pray we will not be dull of hearing nor tired of learning in Jesus Name.
POINT 2: THE FULLER TRUTH THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT
John 16:12-15; 14:16-17,26; 1 Corinthians 2:9,10; Galatians 1:4,11-12; 2 Corinthians 12:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:1-9
The Lord is telling us that with all that we have learnt, known and the revelations we have received, there are still much more to come when the Holy Spirit comes; pray that you will be available to receive these things in Jesus Name. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13).
Remember the titles, ministry and work of the Holy Spirit. That is why it is important for you to be saved, sanctified and baptized in the Holy Ghost. It is then you will have fuller revelation of Christ. He is the Spirit of Truth, enjoys and abides in the truth, and He shall teach you all things beyond, above and building on what you have known (John 14:17,26). The Spirit brings everything to your remembrance. After your salvation experience and living a righteous life, it is the Holy Spirit that will remind you of the benefits and gains of the Kingdom of God, bringing everything to your remembrance. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” ( 1 Corinthians 2:9,10). He reveals the deep things of God that you couldn’t have known. Paul the Apostle benefited from the revelations of the Holy Ghost; it was advantageous and expedient for him that he got more deeper revelation, instruction and knowledge of the Lord (Galatians 4:11-12). You will see that all the details and explanation of the Rapture and the Coming of the Lord were not known to the disciples but when the Holy Ghost came He revealed and taught them all these details (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:1-9). I pray that the Spirit will guide, lead, teach, instruct and show you things to come. The Holy Ghost came to reveal in fuller measure –
(1) The deep things of God; (2) The abundance of revelations; (3) The unsearchable riches of Christ – Ephesians 3:8,9; (4) Gentiles’ salvation without Jewish religion – Acts 11:2-3,12,15; (5) Oneness of Converted Jews and Gentiles – Ephesians 2:14-18; (6) Gentiles’ exaltation and the Jews’ fall and blindness – Romans 11:13,15,25; (7) The Greatest Revelation and Prophecy since the foundation and the beginning of the World, the Book of Revelations.
When the fuller revelation has been made known by the Spirit, it will be profitable in every life.
POINT 3: THE FRUSTRATING THOUGHTS OF TEMPORARY SEPARATION
John 16:16-22; 7:33; 13:33; 16:4-6,20-22; 20:19-22; Luke 24:36-40,51,52; 1 Peter 1:3-7; Revelations 21:3-7
The Lord was going to be separated from them temporarily yet that separation brought sorrow in their hearts. “A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father” (John 16:16). A little while, they would not see Him as was going to die on the Cross for the sins of the world, would be buried and be in the grave for three days, and then He would rise again and appear unto them, and they would rejoice because they have seen the Risen Lord. They were sorrowful because He said that He was going away, and they were not thinking of the other part, that he would come again, and they would see Him, and their sorrow would turn into joy. Your sorrow shall be turned into joy (John 16:20-22). He was talking about His resurrection, that he would appear to them, and their joy would be full. “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you” (John 20:19). Resurrection had taken place, and the power of that resurrection had been manifested and the disciples were glad, “And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord” (John 20:20). This was what He told them, that they would be sorrowful when He went away, but when He would come back after the Resurrection then they would be glad and have joy. That same resurrection power that gave them joy and gladness, works in our lives; it quickens, revives and brings us into new life, “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4). You will rejoice in Jesus Name.
Even though Christ told the disciples, the advantage and expediency of His going away, that temporary separation brought sorrow in their hearts. That sorrow though seemingly unbearable, the Lord assured them they would soon see Him after His resurrection and their sorrow would be turned into joy. The same thing with you; you will see the Lord, and great will be your joy. Whatever you are going through, sorrow, trouble or trauma, Jesus is coming again, you will see Him and great will be your joy. Your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
We know today that with all we have learnt, there are still more things to learn and when the Holy Ghost comes in His fullness and baptismal measure, He will reveal more of the glory, knowledge and deep things of God unto us. You want to make progress in your Christian life and experience, whatever the sorrow today. When the Holy Ghost comes, great will be your joy in Jesus Name.
